Travel Safety
Whenever you travel, you should do a few simple tasks to keep yourself as safe as possible. Whether you are flying, driving, or taking the train, there are a few basic things that you can do.

If you are flying, put your valuables into your carry-on case. Although this may not seem like a personal safety issue, it is also important to keep your luggage as safe as you can. Carry valuables with you, and make sure that you review the new luggage regulations if you are flying in the United States. Give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport, park, and go through security. Security is much faster and much easier if you have followed the luggage guidelines.

If you are traveling to another country and your passport is required, make a few copies of your passport. Keep one either at home or with a parent or guardian. Keep another one with you in a different location than your passport. Just in case you misplace your passport, it is easier to get another one if you have a copy of your original one. The same can be applied to your visa or any other essential traveling information and documents.

When you are traveling by car or by train, pack extra food into your luggage. This is more pertinent to driving as trains will probably have enough food on board in case of an unexpected stop. However, it is a good idea to have a 72-hour kit in your car when you are traveling. The 72-hour kit should contain enough food, water, and clothing for three days. Moreover, you should have candles or flashlights, communication devices, blankets, a small first aid kit, and any medication you might need. You should always be prepared.

As you are preparing to drive, you should have your car examined. You should make sure all the fluids are full or changed, whichever the case may be. Make sure your tires still have good treads and that your engine is running well. Put any fluids in the back of your car that you might need.

Driving requires a few more safety precautions than flying or taking a train. When you a driving for a long distances, try to find someone that can travel with you and keep you awake. It is extremely easy to fall asleep while driving and having company the entire way can alleviate that issue. Also, having multiple drivers in the car allows each driver less time to drive. Switching drivers frequently to avoid tiredness is also a good idea. But make sure that you have enough in your 72-hour kit to cover the driver and all the passengers. You should increase your 72-hour kit to have enough food, water, and warm blankets for everyone in the car.

Finally, travel safety is as much as taking precautions before travel as it is just being smart during your trip. If you are driving in the middle of a storm, it might be better to pull off and wait it out. Sometimes you might need to miss a flight or a train. Just remember to travel smart, and your voyage will be great.
